CORDILLERA ADMINISTRATIVE REGION-  The Department of Social Welfare and Development under the leadership of Regional Director Arnel B. Garcia, CESO II, reopened its doors to aspiring interns through its Government Internship Program (GIP).

The program aims to provide hands-on working experiences in the agency for in-school youth while earning money to augment their daily sustenance and future school needs. Through the GIP, students who are the future working professionals could have further knowledge and expertise in public service.

To qualify for the program, in-school youth applicants aged 19-25 years old should be in good health. Apart from that, their family’s monthly income should not be more than the existing poverty threshold amounting to Php 12,082.00. Applicants must submit pertinent documents such as the birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority or the Local Civil Registry, Certificate of Indigency from the Barangay, School ID, and COVID-19 vaccination card.

A total of 80 qualified interns will be selected wherein 50 of them will be coming from the provinces of CAR and will be deployed in the Social Welfare and Development Offices. They will be rendering service for 30 working days and will receive a stipend of 75% of the existing wage rate of the region.

The qualified interns will be deployed to different offices, sections, or units whose work processes are aligned to their assessed skills to assist in the implementation of the different programs of the agency.

Despite the program being deferred in in 2020 and 2021 in consideration of the safety and protection of the youth amidst the COVID-19, DSWD-CAR mobilizes its efforts to encourage the youth to join the program.

“We, at DSWD-CAR recognizes the potential of the youth as future public servants. Their dynamism and their passion to make their future better is undeniable and we would like to be the one that provides them the opportunities to enhance their skills so that they could achieve their maximum potentials,” Regional Director Garcia said.

The Government Internship Program is one of the components of the Kabataan 2000 program of the Philippine government with the goal of instilling a sense of community service and volunteerism for the less privileged youth in the society. #DSWD-CAR,  SOCIAL MARKETING UNIT, Lorillie R.  Gonzales
