Villaviciosa, Abra– The Department of Social Welfare and Development- Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Villaviciosa has encouraged the youth in the said municipality to be aware of their role in community development and get involved in the government programs which promote such.

Social Worker Rubymay T. Bobila said that the youth should be active in taking part in community development because they are the future stakeholders of the government programs.

In support to this call, representatives from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program , Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Service (Kalahi-CIDDSS) and LGU-Villaviciosa organized and conducted a  Poster and Slogan Making Contest with the theme “Proyekto mo, Kinabukasan ko!” last July 2015.

The youth participants were from the different barangays of Villaviciosa, Abra. The competition was open to all 12-18 years old including out-of-school youths.

A total of 11 youth participants joined the contest and their entries were posted at the Sanggunian Bayan Hall of Villaviciosa, Abra for judging purposes.

Villaviciosa Municipal Mayor Marjorie Lagen acknowledged the youth’s participation in the contest and shared how essential youth’s involvement in the community development is.

Mr. Paul Davis Pescozo, 15, a Grade 9 student was awarded the 2nd runner-up and received 1,000 pesos cash prize. Ms. Jillian Joyce Cosme,15, a Grade 9 student won 2st runner-up and received 1,200 pesos. Mr. Grabiel Bilagot, an out of school youth, won the best poster and slogan and received 1,600 pesos as cash prize.

“The contest is not just for the youth’s benefit but this is for the whole community as well because this activity also aims to increase awareness and ownership among them. May our community members be inspired to work harder as the young people who have joined this contest have already expressed their hope that through our government’s program, a better future awaits them. With this, we will do our best to encourage more youth to join these kinds of contest.” Kalahi-CIDSS Municipal Financial Analyst Elizabeth Pascua shared.

The municipality of Villaviciosa in Abra is a Convergence area currently implementing three core programs of the DSWD-Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kalahi-CIDSS through the National Community Driven Development Program modality and the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP)# DSWD-CAR, Social Marketing Unit, Nerizza Faye G.
