Baguio City- Through the Department of Social Welfare and Development- Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR), around 20 adoptive and foster families have gathered last 22 December 2014 for the realization of an Adoption Support Group here in the city.

The Adoption Support Group aims to provide assistance to adoptive and foster families especially in concerns related to rearing adoptive children and dealing with adoption issues.

“Noong bago kaming adoptive parents, napakarami naming kailangang i-adjust. Pero kanino kami magtatanong? Hindi kami naiintindihan ng hindi adoptive parents. Only an adoptive parent can understand an adoptive parent.”, Engr. Raymond O. Golez shared.

Furthermore, Engr. Golez who was also elected as the president of the said group emphasized that this effort is not only focused for the parents but most especially for the children. “Through this group, maari nating mapag-usapan ang mga challenges, para masulusyunan ito at para na rin mapalaki ng maayos ang mga bata.”, he added.

DSWD-CAR OIC-Regional Director Janet P. Armas expressed her support towards the group. “It is our pleasure to see our adoptive and foster families gather together, not just to celebrate but to support each other. Through this initiative, we hope that we will be able to encourage other interested individuals to undergo the legal process of adoption and foster care.” Director Armas added.

There are around 27 adoptive and 59 foster families in the Region for 2014. # DSWD-CAR, Social Marketing Unit, NFGV
