Tineg, Abra – A year after the visit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman that inspired an international Filipino organization, the schoolchildren of one of the poorest municipalities in the country are now going back to school this year with complete basic school materials.

After patiently waiting, the kids of Tineg, Abra have received their new school materials from the European Network of Filipino in Diaspora United Kingdom (ENFID-UK) group. Through the ENFID-UK’s One Love Abra charity concert in cooperation with Side Projects, The Filipino Channel Europe, and DSWD Cordillera last June 22, 2013 held at King’s Cross, London, the organization raised 1,400 pounds for the children of Tineg with the help of the Filipino Community in the UK.

The money that was raised was used to purchase school materials for the children such as bags, papers, pens, notebooks, and others. Every classroom in Caganayan Elementary School was also given learning posters, manila papers, reams of bond papers, calculators and other supplies.

The organization also donated sports equipment such as badminton sets, basketballs, footballs and also chess sets. More than 400 school children will benefit from the donations of ENFID-UK.

The donations were personally delivered by ENFID-UK representative Vanz Acosta Bio assisted by DSWD-CAR staff last March 31 at Caganayan Elementary School. They were turned over to Tineg Mayor Corinthia Crisologo and school teachers.

Mayor Crisologo has expressed her strong gratitude to the Filipino Community in the UK for the help that her municipality has received.

European Network of Filipino in Diaspora United (ENFID-UK) is an ambitious movement to get all Filipino communities, associations or groups “connected”, for greater exchange of good practices, heightened sense of oneness and concern for one another, more unified voice, thus creating greater political visibility to policy-making institutions, both in our country of origin and in the host country where these Filipinos reside at the moment. # DSWD-CAR, SOCIAL MARKETING UNIT, Jomel Anthony V.
