In celebration of the 24th National Statistics Month, the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) conducted a Research Forum recently.

For the first time, the highlights of the Social Protection and Development Report, Regional Profile of Poor Households, and the DSWD-CAR 2012 Annual Report were presented.

“This corresponds to one of the objectives of the activity which is to increase awareness and appreciation on the importance of statistics,” DSWD-CAR Planning Unit Head Cecile Aguilan- Basawil said.

Aside from the reports, the DSWD Research Agenda  for 2010-2014, the Pantawid Pamilya Research Agenda for 2013-2015, the Administrative Order 19 series of 2011 which set the policy guidelines on the conduct of research-studies in DSWD Offices, Centers and Institutions, and the Administrative Order 9 series of 2011 which provides the guideline in the provision of research grant for the implementation of the DSWD research agenda were also presented during the event.

“We hope that we will encourage our partners in the academe, national government agencies and civil society organizations to undertake researches under the Department’s research agenda,” Basawil added.

Also presented were two completed researches entitled “The Solo Parents Welfare Act: Its Contribution to the Development of the Cordillera Administrative Region,” a DSWD-CAR research spearheaded by Ms. Basawil and “Conversations with Children: Mixed Media Collaborative Artworks from Art as Experience,” a research by Rochelle Bakisan, a fine arts student from the University of the Philippines-Baguio.

The Research and Development – Technical Working Group also recognized an on-going DSWD-CAR research along the agency’s Core Shelter Assistance Program.

Basawil said that for the succeeding years, the DSWD will still strengthen its advocacy along the conduct of research towards the quest for data based policies.
