Besao, Mountain Province – Despite the heavy rains, communities in this municipality remain confident that their area will not be extremely affected by the downpour.
Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) Project Area Coordinator Gemmuel Daria said that the communities are able to say this because of the four drainage systems that they have completed under the said Project. With the community volunteers’ active involvement in managing and implementing the said Community-Driven Development (CDD) Project, the communities’ common concern was addressed in time.
Engr. Dominador Matbagan, Regional Deputy Infrastructure Specialist of the Kalahi-CIDSS Project said that these sub-projects were constructed with appropriate sizes for the needs of the communities. Clogging of drainage and soil erosion can definitely be prevented because of the added drainage systems, Engr. Matbagan added.
With a total worth of Php 2,631,133.39 funds from CDDP’s Millennium Challenge Corporation grant and Local Counterpart Contribution, the four completed drainage canal systems benefit 503 households in the municipality.
Banguitan Project Implementation Team head Rudy Law-agey said that their sub-project was completed as planned because the funds for the sub-project were properly managed and well utilized. Law-agey also shared that because of his participation he now knows how to manage and lead on sub-project implementation.
Bgy.Banguitan’s drainage system has 234.6 linear meter size with the amount of Php831,440.38. While, a 217 linear meter concrete canal lining has been completed in Bgy.Besao East with Php 459,999.51 cost. Bgy.Gueday drainage system has 205.5 linear meter reinforced concrete lined canal with funds amounting toPhp 662,943.50. And for Bgy.Kin-iway, the community made 445.4 linear meter drainage canal with the amount of Php 676,750.00.
Besao is among the 19 municipalities in the Cordillera Administrative Region which implements the CDDP. The CDDP allows the municipalities to implement three cycles or years of the Project.
