Cordillera Administrative Region– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) here has already provided assistance to the victims of the washed-out earth dike at Turod, Luna, Apayao.

The said incident resulted to flooding, series of landslides, and road closures which affected around 393 families from the municipalities of Luna, Flora, Conner, Pudtol, and Calanasan in Apayao.

Of the affected families, 209 families from Luna, Apayao evacuated to Luna Gym.

“The DSWD personnel in the Province of Apayao are working closely with the local government units to address the immediate needs of the evacuees and the affected families”, DSWD-CAR OIC-Regional Director Janet P. Armas shared.

As of 28 November 2016, DSWD-CAR has released 1,000 family food packs to the Municipality of Luna, and 500 family food packs to the Municipality of Pudtol.

“We will be closely monitoring the situation in the Province of Apayao. We will also be providing assistance as necessary.” Director Armas added.

Meanwhile, DSWD-CAR has already released Emergency Shelter Assistance to 7,939 households out of 44,433 households which have been assessed to be qualified to receive the said assistance. Initial assistance of Php 5,000 was provided to the households with partially or totally damaged houses as a result of the onslaught of Typhoon Lawin. Around Php 39,695,000.00 worth of assistance has already been provided.

“We are continuously doing our best to provide the assistance to all our target households before 2016 ends.” Dir. Armas added.
