Newly hired field staff from the youth sector of Baguio City appreciated the efforts of the local government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in providing them employable skills through the training conducted for the special family assessment in the city.

In preparation for the assessment, the Baguio youth were provided with comprehensive skills training under the DSWD Listahanan and the City Social Welfare and Development Office. The training focused on enhancing their interviewing, networking, and computer skills which is needed for the conduct of the family assessment in the city.

One of the hired enumerators, Kyo Fe Masa-ad said that the learned skills in the training could not only be used for the assessment but also for future employment.

“With this training, I now feel confident to be part of this assessment which will result to an updated database of families in the city,” Masa-ad added.

The employable skills enhancement training and conduct of family assessment of the Listahanan was made possible through the funding from the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Process (GPBP) and the local government.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan asked the hired field staff to take the assessment seriously since the updated database of poor households in Baguio City will be used for poverty alleviation programs of the local government.

“In this project, we wanted that our Baguio youth not only to be trained for this assessment, but also to help them in their future employment. I hope that the youth will always look back to the training they have gone through and apply what they have learned. We are also trying to build this city as a character city and the youth could help by instilling good family values to families they may encounter in this assessment,” Domogan said.

Jonelle Paas, one of the hired area supervisors for the assessment, expressed his appreciation with this project by encouraging his fellow youth who were also hired to do their job well.

“We are proud to be a part of this project under the Listahanan, also known as the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR). With this assessment, we are continuing the legacy by updating the database and we should always remember that the funding used are from the taxes of people. We are lucky that we are benefiting from this project,” Paas added.
