Baguio City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) showed its full support in promoting women empowerment and ending abuse cases in the region during the 2014 Kababaihan Festival in the city.

Thirty-one staff of the agency marched together with women’s groups in the city and other government agencies from the Convention Center to Melvin Jones to further intensify the call to stop abuse and continue the empowerment of women not only in Baguio but also in the country.

Before the grand parade, a program was conducted in the Convention Center where it was attended by the City Mayor, Hon. Mauricio Domogan, and hosted by Director Helen Tibaldo of Philippine Information Agency Cordillera.

The Kababaihan Festival celebration’s theme for this year is “Juana, ang Tatag Mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong”.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Department has been consistent in ensuring that victims of abuse are protected and well taken care of with the help of through its programs and services. Gender orientations are also conducted to promote gender equality and empowerment among its staff and clients.

In line with the Women’s Month Celebration, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the Department will also launch this month a comics on Violence Against Women and Children that will be distributed to the Department’s clients and to the general public. This is one of the advocacy projects of the Pantawid Program that will help educate the public especially the women on different forms of abuse, how to fight them, and how to seek help. # DSWD-CAR, SOCIAL MARKETING UNIT, Jomel Anthony V.
