The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD FO CAR) through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) has once again recognized this year’s model 4Ps families and exemplary child through the Search for 4Ps Huwarang Pamilya and Exemplary Child held on 25 July 2024 in Baguio City.

The family of Peter Puh-hay from Lagawe, Ifugao clinched the 4Ps Huwarang Pamilya with their united version of determination, hard work, positive attitude driven by strong faith in God which they considered as their bread and butter in maintaining family togetherness amid life’s difficulties. Three of the six children of Peter earned their respective degrees while the rest of their children are still attending school.

Meanwhile, Ehrald Jake Hosana of Luna, Apayao was named as the 4Ps Exemplary Child with his leadership abilities driven with respect, love, and commitment in everything he does while performing well in his academics and extracurricular activities. As he is actively involved in school and community activities, Ehrald Jake  focuses on achieving his dream to become a Civil Engineer someday.

“These model families and exemplary children beneficiaries are the faces of 4Ps. Their simple acts of determination, grit, courage, and hard work have laid the foundation of hope and aspiration despite poverty,” said DSWD FO CAR Regional Director Maria A. Catbagan-Aplaten, PhD.

RD Aplaten further encouraged the beneficiaries to continue to live the true spirit of positive Filipino values in their communities and to always give back to their communities.

The families of Lydia Baluga of Balbalan, Kalinga and Simon Bastog of Bauko, Mt. Province bagged the 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. The other finalists are: Jennyfler Gines Family of Luba, Abra; Perlita Vea Family of Pudtol, Apayao; Melicia Rojas Family of Baguio City; and Carolyn Tongalag from Itogon, Benguet.

Prior to the awarding, the nomination documents of the regional finalists were reviewed through desk validation by an invited panel of judges. The finalists also underwent one-on-one interviews with the judges to know more about their life stories and measure their level of awareness and knowledge level on various current events and advocacies in their respective communities.

The invited panel of judges were Jocelyn Loquio from the Department of Health-CAR, Maria Aprila Cruz from the Philippine Information Agency-CAR and Pastor Arnold Gambito from Yeshua Change Agents, one of the Civil Society Organization partners of DSWD CAR.

All the winners and finalists will serve as ambassadors in promoting the advocacies of the program in championing education, health, and nutrition in the Cordillera communities. They also received cash prizes and certificates.

Now on its 9th year, the search for 4Ps Huwarang Pamilya and Exemplary Children is conducted annually as a platform to showcase the success stories of family and children-beneficiaries who maintain strong family ties, demonstrate positive Filipino values in their household, school, and have a positive impact in the community.

The family of Peter Puh-hay will represent the region in the National Family Week Celebration to be held in Manila in September.  Meanwhile, Ehrald Jake Hosana and all the regional exemplary children finalists will participate in the National Children’s Congress slated  in November this year.

The 4Ps, led by the DSWD, was institutionalized in 2019 by virtue of Republic Act 11310 as the government’s major poverty alleviation program that invests in the health, nutrition, education, and psycho-social development of the beneficiaries. The program ensures that the beneficiaries will have the capacity to live a decent life and are ready to exit within seven years as mandated by the law. ### DSWD-CAR Social Marketing Unit – Marlo C.
