Cordillera Administrative Region－ Showcasing the collaborative spirit among the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) members, the Response and Early Recovery Pillar continues to coordinate and facilitate activities to support the families across the Cordillera region affected by the South West Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina.
DSWD Regional Director Maria A. Catbagan-Aplaten acknowledged each member- agency’s contribution saying, “Our binnadang/ collective efforts proves our unwavering dedication to providing aid to those in need during times of disaster.”
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office CAR, as the Vice-Chair, has been ensuring the availability of relief goods in its warehouses and in the Local Government Units with LGUs. The Agency also spearheaded the distribution of augmentation resources in terms of Food and Non-Food Items and cash aid to the affected families.
Also, the DSWD, as the lead agency for Camp Coordination and Camp Management, continuously monitored and validated the status of the opened evacuation centers. They too assessed the needs of the Individually Displaced Persons and delivered immediate assistance.
Uniformed personnel from various agencies have been instrumental in the efficient loading and unloading of FFPs at regional and satellite warehouses across Abra, Benguet, and Ifugao. Key contributors include: Philippine National Police – Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR), 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), Special Action Force (SAF), Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 1504th Mobile Company, Abra Provincial Police Office (PPO), Ifugao PPO, Bangued Municipal Police Station (MPS), Lagawe MPS, National Police – Highway Patrol Group (HPG) stationed in the Abra, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tuba, BFP Tublay, BFP La Trinidad, BFP Langiden, Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal (OPFM) Benguet, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and 54th Infantry Battalion.
On 24-26 July 24 and July 26, the PRO-CAR also provided logistic support, to transport 2,700 Family Food Packs (FFPs) FFPs to the Abra satellite warehouse. Additionally, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also assisted in delivering 1,300 FFPs.
The Logistics Cluster maintains a 24/7 duty at the RDRRMC Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and stands ready to support Non-Food Items (NFIs).
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) as the CRDRRMC lead office is prepared to address post-typhoon effects and has provided fuel for the delivery trucks. The Health and WASH Cluster led by the Department of Health-Cordillera is on white alert and has validated reports of one injury in Bangued, Abra.
Continuous monitoring is underway for any additional incidents. Prepositioned supplies include CAMPOLAS, Doxycycline, family kits, hygiene kits, collapsible water containers, troclosene sodium, breastfeeding kits, Micronutrient Powder (MNP), and Vitamin A.
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) team is on standby, and disaster-related information, education, and communication (IEC) materials have been disseminated to support affected communities.
In terms of infrastructure, regular monitoring of road conditions is ongoing. The DPWH has successfully cleared 84 roadblocks caused by adverse weather, with equipment and personnel deployed for road clearing operations, especially in Apayao and Benguet. Currently, no road closures are anticipated in Abra.
