As part of the continuous efforts to capacitate the Parent Leaders (PLs) of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) as partners in program implementation, 50 PLs from the different provinces of the Cordillera Administrative Region attended the Bridging Leadership Training on 4-7 June 2024 at the Lafaayette Luxury Suites, Baguio City.

The training aimed to enhance the leadership and partnership skills of the PLs to be empowered members of the community and to provide them with opportunities to improve their lives, and as partners in community building.

4Ps Regional Program Coordinator Fatima D. Florendo recognized the commendable efforts of the PLs in their respective community.

“You have been exemplifying the true spirit of volunteerism in your community and those efforts have been instrumental in the smooth implementation of our program. This activity will further develop and empower you as leaders to continue being a co-owner of the program and an agent of change in your community,” Florendo said.

Esteemed speaker-leader-consultant, Dr. Ryan Guinaran talked about the different forms of leadership, frameworks of bridging leadership and its difference with other leadership styles, and characteristics of bridging leadership.

Dr. Guinaran deepened his discussion on personal awareness, dialogue skills, understanding group dynamics, and leader as a coach.

PL Rosavilla Basingan from Conner, Apayao shared that being a leader comes with great influence hence leadership demands more caring and loving for the members.

“Being a leader is not just managing people but more on giving, care, and compassion for our members,” Basingan passionately shared.

The PLs are selected 4Ps beneficiaries who diligently assist in conducting meetings, updating of beneficiaries’ profiles, monthly family development sessions, and other voluntary efforts helpful in program implementation. They do voluntary efforts without additional compensation.

Meanwhile, DSWD CAR Regional Director Maria D. Aplaten encouraged the PLs to continue their unwavering support and voluntary deeds and to be the image of hope in their respective community.

True leadership is not measured by the praises you received but by the lives you touch and the impact you make. This training has equipped you with valuable tools to empower your communities, foster, cooperation, and sustainable change. Your role as parent leaders is vital for the successful implementation of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps),” RD Aplaten underscored.

As of September 2023, there are 2,134 PLs in the entire Cordillera who continuously provide assistance in the smooth implementation of the program. ### DSWD-CAR Social Marketing Unit – Marlo C. Abyado, Jr., 4Ps Information Officer
